November 2024
I have 6 pieces showing in Melbourne at Art Lover's Australia Gallery in Collingwood.
The Summer Showcase will continue until the end of January with the work of 50 selected artists. All the art is under 90x90 cm.
I will have had 3 pieces selected for Foot Square at Aspire which continues until December 21. This is an annual competition for art under 30x30 cm.
Pocket Pieces at Stevens Street in Yandina continues until the end of the year with a huge wall of art under 30x30cm and $500. Ella and I both have work on the wall.
I have 2 paintings in the final show of the year at Side Gallery in Red Hill. This year's theme is Paradise Gloss, which asks how we as creatives are surviving the current crazy state of the world. I survive by drawing the natural world from life and making art as a salve for the soul.
I am a full-time artist and tutor, working and teaching from my purpose-built studio set on 9 rural acres in SE Queensland. Originally from the NE of England, I completed my BA and MA in Textiles at Manchester Metropolitan University.I lived and worked in Bermuda for many years and now live in Cedar Creek on the north side of Brisbane.
My art is bursting with exuberant colour and texture realised in acrylic. My practice is concerned with the natural world and my home. All my work starts with observational drawing on location, developing into lushly layered paintings in the studio. I aim to evoke a particular sense and spirit of place through disrupted realism.
All my art is for sale and is perfect for homes or businesses. I am very happy to work to commission with commissionedart and if you see something you love but isn't quite the right size or colour way, get in touch and we can come up with the perfect solution. Art for interiors is a collaborative process and all about great communication.
My garden has been a labour of love for over a decade, as a rocky cow paddock has been transformed into a leafy subtropical garden The result is an endless source of inspiration, with familial connections to those who loved and tended their own gardens.
Australian landscape had always felt vast and empty when viewed with a European sensibility and it has taken many years for me to feel comfortable enough to engage visually. However, the valley where I live is relatively more intimate, the studio view of the paddocks, bush and mountain resonates with echoes of the country far away.
I completed a yearlong residency at a flower farm in mid-2024. This experience has provided me with an extensive body of work.
Through observational drawing, painting and photography on location, Helen recorded the farm cycle of preparing, planting, nurturing, harvesting, resting and replenishing, exploring the special sense of place that the farm exudes. I come from a family of keen gardeners and documenting the farm has manifested people and places far from here, enhancing her sense of kinship.
I have exhibited my work worldwide in the USA, Canada, Bermuda, Poland, Russia, Australia, and the UK. My work is held in private, corporate, and public collections.
You will find my art classes for adults, original art, commissions and blogs here.
Please note I am not running weekly art classes at the moment. Keep an eye out on Instagram or subscribe to hear first about classes, workshops and new releases.
“Art should be something that liberates your soul, provokes the imagination and encourages people to go further.” – Keith Haring
