News for 2024

I have been busy all summer painting in the studio for two big shows this year, The Affordable Art Fairs in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne and of course The Samford and Surrounds Arts Trail and Open Studios in June.

I will be showing with my daughter Ella at Wild Canary in Brookfield in June, the show is open from June 12, with an opening reception on June 22. I am thrilled to be showing in this gorgeous venue and it's extra special being our first mother/daughter show. I will be showing my Acres Collection, paintings which have been produced as a response to my year-long artist-in-residence at Woggoon Flower Farm in Camp Mountain.

This year's Art Trail is our 10th anniversary and I believe I am the only artist who has exhibited every year in their studio. Visiting artists in the place where the magic happens is the very best part of any Art Trail and Open Studios event.

I will be running a workshop " Loose Lucious Florals" on Saturday 1, 8 and 15 of June in the studio booking here or on the art class page.

Finally, I will be having a solo show at The Butter Factory in Cooroy at the end of August.

It's going to be a huge year and I am going to relish the challenge.

I am a full-time artist and tutor, working and teaching from my purpose-built studio set on 9 rural acres in SE Queensland. Originally from the NE of England, I completed my BA and MA in Textiles at Manchester Metropolitan University.I lived and worked in Bermuda for many years and now live in Cedar Creek on the north side of Brisbane.

My art is bursting with exuberant colour and texture realised in acrylic. My practice is concerned with my immediate environment, the view from my studio and my garden. All my work starts with observational drawing on location, developing into lushly layered paintings in the studio. I aim to evoke a particular sense and spirit of place through disrupted realism.

My garden has been a labour of love for over a decade, as a rocky cow paddock has been transformed into a leafy subtropical garden The result is an endless source of inspiration, with familial connections to those who loved and tended their own gardens.

Australian landscape had always felt vast and empty when viewed with a European sensibility and it has taken many years for me to feel comfortable enough to engage visually. However, the valley where I live is relatively more intimate, the studio view of the paddocks, bush and mountain resonates with echoes of the country far away.

I have exhibited my work worldwide in the USA, Canada, Bermuda, Poland, Russia, Australia, and the UK. My work is held in private, corporate, and public collections.

You will find my art classes for adults, original art, commissions and  blogs here

About

Art in Cedar Creek

My studio is on 9 rural acres in Cedar Creek. I work and teach art to adults there.

My practice starts with observational drawings made on location. I use the studio to make exhuberant paintings in acrylic on ply panels.

My classes run on Thursday and Friday mornings for adults. My approach is structured carefully so that you learn everything you need, to start making visual art with confidence.

I believe in being open and generous with no trade secrets.
