Paintings built from looking drawing
+really seeing
I’m Helen Evans.
I make vibrant acrylic paintings on wood panels, grounded in close observation of the world around me. Through drawing and painting from life, I develop semi-abstract works that explore the experience of really looking — of intentional seeing.
My paintings are richly layered and inspired by still life, botanicals, and the landscape.
They range from the tiny to the expansive, and I welcome commissions. I also teach regular workshops and offer private bookings.

Commissions
I’m always happy to create original work on commission. Whether you’re after a still life with personal objects, a favourite botanical, or a landscape with meaning. We can work together to bring your idea to life.
I’ve been creating commissioned art for over 30 years. Good communication is key, you don’t need to know all the answers, just bring your thoughts on the subject, colours, and size, and I’ll guide you through the rest.
If you’re interested in commissioning a piece, get in touch and let’s start a conversation.

Workshops
Make art with colour, confidence, and curiosity.
I offer vibrant, hands-on workshops that focus on acrylic painting, observation, and playful exploration. My goal is to help you loosen up, experiment with colour and texture, and connect more deeply with your subject, whether that’s still life, landscape, or botanicals.
Each session includes demonstrations, lots of individual guidance, and a warm, encouraging space to build skills and creative confidence. My workshops are open to everyone, whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced painter looking to refresh your practice.
hey! I’m Helen.
I’ve been making art more or less full-time since graduating from art school in Manchester. Over the years, my practice has followed me from the UK to Bermuda, and now to Brighton in Brisbane, Queensland.
Wherever I’ve lived, painting has been a constant. It’s how I make sense of the world around me. I work mainly in acrylic on board, creating vibrant, textured paintings of still life, botanicals, and landscapes. My process begins with observation, drawing from life to explore light, shadow, and the quiet presence of everyday objects.
People often tell me my paintings help them slow down and notice things they might have overlooked. That’s what I hope for, to offer a fresh way of seeing, and to share the wonder I find in the ordinary.

What if success isn’t about momentum, money, or milestones, but about understanding yourself well enough to keep going?
In this reflective essay, I look back on 2025 and unpack what success really meant for me as an artist: selling work, making peace with shame, navigating ADHD, and learning to stand behind my practice with more confidence and kindness.
