Original artwork by Helen Evans
A richly layered still life that speaks to memory, belonging, and the beauty of connection across time and place. The Spa Vase and Loule Bowl is the first work in Helen Evans’s autobiographical series A Sense of Self. Set against a vivid green backdrop, this composition centres on a striking deep blue vase from Northern Ireland and a bright blue ceramic bowl from Loule, Portugal.
These cherished heirlooms trace stories across generations and geographies—linking rural Ulster, the Algarve, and the artist’s present-day Queensland studio. Painted with Evans’s signature attention to light, shadow and saturated colour, the work holds quiet emotion and familial resonance. A celebration of meaningful objects, observed beauty, and the personal histories they carry.
