My friend Paul relocated back to the UK, and he entrusted me with his plants. This orchid has flourished and rewards me with beautiful pink blossoms every year. This painting was based on drawings I made during a 100-day project. That year, I drew flowers and plants very near our house, as it was a La Niña year and rained incessantly. Shelter refers to me sheltering from the rain under beach umbrellas to make my drawings. It also refers to the garden at our home in Cedar Creek, which, as it grew, provided shelter from the harsh Queensland sun.
