This painting is part of my new still life series, created for my solo show A Sense of Self. Each work explores how objects can carry memory, identity, and connection—how they act as physical holders of experience, place, and emotion.
The blue bowl at the heart of this piece was given to me by my dear friend Margaret, back when we were both heading off to art school—me to Manchester, her to Brighton. That gift sparked my lifelong love of blue objects. We’ve been friends ever since, through travels, reunions, and adventures—including a glamorous stay with her family in Delhi before our round-the-world backpacking trip in 1995.
Technically, the painting is layered in acrylic on a solid wood panel, sealed with three coats of gloss medium to enhance depth and colour. It’s framed in a hand-sanded, waxed meranti float frame, finished with a soft beeswax polish for a gentle satin surface.
Wired and ready to hang.
