51 Green Gum Teeny Tiny March I
Green Gum is part of my Field Notes 10 × 10cm Teeny Tiny Collection.
The Teeny Tiny Collection was made as companion pieces with the 30×30cm “ abstracted” images. I painted a 20×20cm with the 3 30×30cm paintings. Once the 20×20 was finished I cut into 4, 10×10cm pieces.
The Teeny Tiny collection has been offered as a monthly giveaway, available through my newsletter which goes out to folks on my mailing list each month.
If a person opts in to the teeny tiny draw they go into a random draw ever month. If they win they choose a painting from that months Teeny Tiny Painting collection.
The green eucalyptus was my first plant of the series. I found the willow gum branches in Peace Park on Baskerville Road. The trees are towering, but being eucalypts, the branches will often be blown onto the ground. This specimen was almost past flowering, and the tiny gum nuts were starting to form. I sourced them again for my white willow gum later in the series when they were covered in fragrant white blossom.
Field Notes is divided into ten parts, each exploring a plant or tree I have encountered in my Brighton, 4017 neighbourhood. The specimens were observed on my daily dog walks, with a sample brought back to the studio where I made drawings and paintings from it.
I worked on this collection from January to October 2026, so the paintings also record the changing seasons and the flora of my new neighbourhood as the year unfolded.
