This piece was developed following my series for Feast, an exhibition at Stevens Street Gallery in Yandina at the end of 2025. I have worked from an aerial perspective intermittently for many years, an approach to still life I was introduced to by my tutor, Jackie Shelton, at university. I have explored this perspective in my Simple Gifts series, creating work using this style since the late 1980s
This piece was edited from an original painting of two mushrooms found in my paddock at Cedar Creek. Originally part of pair the sister to this piece sold early on. I added an extra mushroom and re painted the ground. Mushrooms earned a poor reputation in tyhe press in Australia in 2024 / 2025 after The Mushroom Murders. It was hard to not reference this awful event in a painting of mushrooms found in a field. The perpetrator had just been found guilty hence the title.
