April Still Life Anna Banana
A large still life painted from life in my garden studio.
Painted in acrylic on 3mm ply. The ply is then panelled and custom-framed in a meranti hardwood, float-style frame
The painting is finished with 3 coats of glass medium, which is then sealed for a soft satin finish.
Finishing the piece in this way reveals the vibrant colours and multiple layers of texture and pattern.
In 2026, I am making an A1 still life painting each month. My April painting features the two dominant yellows of this time of year. The Easter Cassia is golden, cadmium yellow and grows in parks and roadsides across SE Queensland. Golden Penda is a limey lemon yellow and is found in gardens and street trees. The vase is a simple jug made by my friend Anna, who also made me the table runner covered in banana leaves.
