Painted as part of a triptych during my 2023–2024 residency at The Acres, Dog Days, I grew from weekly sketchbook studies of flowers in ink and crayon. This rich observational material became the foundation for a series of studio floral paintings.
Dog Days II is part of a triptych created during my residency at The Acres in 2023/2024. I drew in my sketchbook weekly for months, capturing flowers in ink with crayons to indicate colour, which then informed the studio paintings. As Queensland’s summer heat intensified, the neat rows of flowers became wild, and the rains turned the paddocks into verdant microcosms of runaway blooms, weeds, and insects. Dog Days I evokes the intense heat, sudden rain, and vibrant energy of a Queensland summer. Each panel can be displayed alone or together as part of the triptych.
