Joy in Habitat celebrates the everyday beauty of objects that carry both history and personal meaning. At its centre is a small watering can from the iconic UK store Habitat—a design marvel for someone who grew up in the colour-challenged northeast of England in the 1970s and ’80s. Gifted by my sister before I was married, it has travelled with me everywhere. Paired with the confident, persistent joy weed—a plant that thrives almost anywhere, splashing gardens with bursts of colour despite my suspicion of its purple leaves—this painting blends nostalgia, design, and the quiet vibrancy of daily life.
