Lime Duo

$295.00

20×20×1cm, acrylic on wood cradled panel, framed in meranti for finished size of 21×21×4cm, d rings and wire attached to back, ready to hang, the painting is finished with 3 coats of gloss medium, when dry it is waxed to produce a soft satin finish.

the float frame is hang constructed, hand sanded and the waxed. meranti is a pinkish hardwood and perfectly suits the work, a float frame is a simple and contemporary look which enhances a work without overwhelming it.

my paintings are all original, this series were painted from direct observation and in natural light in my Brisbane studio.

This piece was developed following my series for “Feast”, an exhibition at Stevens Street Gallery in Yandina at the end of 2025. I have worked from an aerial perspective intermittently for many years, an approach to still life I was introduced to by my tutor, Jackie Shelton at university. I have explored this perspective in my Simple Gifts series, creating work using this style since the late 1980s.

I love limes the shape, the colour, the smell, the taste, they make me think of cold drinks and thai food.. I also use them a lot in student still life setups. One of my proudest gardening triumphs was growing my first limes, something that as a kid in 1980s Britain felt like an impossible dream.
