This piece was developed following my series for “Feast”, an exhibition at Stevens Street Gallery in Yandina at the end of 2025. I have worked from an aerial perspective intermittently for many years, an approach to still life I was introduced to by my tutor, Jackie Shelton at university. I have explored this perspective in my Simple Gifts series, creating work using this style since the late 1980s.

I love orchids. I appreciate that they flower for an extended period and their forms are simply stunning. Somehow, I manage to get mine to bloom year after year without doing anything fancy. Orchid growing seems complex and shrouded in mystery, so I’m always thrilled to see new buds. This blossom came from a recent bloom and looked perfect in this small, egg-shaped vase.
