Sticks and Stones V is an original acrylic painting created on ply-cradled panels. Comprised of four connected panels (each 30 x 45 x 2 cm), the work has a finished, framed size of 62 x 92 x 7 cm. It is presented in a simple meranti float/tray frame, which enhances its natural tones and contemporary feel.
This painting belongs to my ongoing Sticks and Stones series, developed in the studio from observational drawings of the ground in my garden. I have long been fascinated by the small, overlooked treasures found underfoot—leaves, sticks, stones, and other fragments of the natural world. These humble objects recur in my work as totemic devices, carrying echoes of memory, emotion, and belonging. In painting them, I seek both an emotional and spiritual grounding, a reminder of the beauty in what we might otherwise pass by.
