Jacaranda Spring
80x80x4cm acrylic on cradled ply panel unframed.
This painting is part of a new series of still life created for my solo show " A Sense of Self"
Objects preserve a wealth of significant emotion and connection, serving as physical embodiments of identity. The narratives of these objects project a sense of self while sharing stories of lives lived in other places and times. They hold a physical representation of experience, speaking of familial ties and the story of who we were, who we are, and where we have been.
I love jacarandas and I have planted many trees in the garden. The first job my husband David had as a graduate architect in his home country of Bermuda was for clients who owned a house called Jacaranda. Despite the island climate being similar to SE Queensland there were only two jacaranda trees on Bermuda in the early 90s. One was at Orange Grove in Smiths and the other at the client's house. The trees remind me of our early married life, our friend Sara who lived at Orange Grove and driving up Knapton Hill.
Now living in SEQ jacaranda season is the promise of summer and the gorgeous purple rain of a Brisbane spring.
